Dr. Norlela Sukor is Professor of Medicine and Senior Consultant Endocrinologist at the Department of Medicine, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC), Kuala Lumpur. She is a distinguished clinician and academic leader whose contributions to endocrinology have earned both national and international recognition.
Among her many achievements are the University of Queensland Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research Higher Degree Thesis and the Postgraduate Student Academic Excellence Award (2009). She is also a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE), becoming the first Malaysian woman to be conferred this prestigious distinction.
Professor Norlela has played a pivotal role in shaping diabetes care and national healthcare policy in Malaysia, serving on the executive and task force committees for the Malaysian Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in both 2015 and 2020.
An accomplished researcher, she has published extensively in leading high-impact peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, and Hypertension.
She currently serves on the Editorial Board of Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), following a direct invitation from the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Paul Stewart, making her the first Malaysian endocrinologist to receive this distinction.
Further underscoring her regional leadership, Professor Norlela currently serves as Vice President of the ASEAN Network of Adrenal Hypertension (ANAH), where she continues to advance collaborative research, education, and clinical excellence in endocrinology across the region.
