Dr SP Chan graduated from the University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur.  She is a Consultant Endocrinologist, Emeritus Professor of Endocrine Medicine at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  She also practices at Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Selangor, Malaysia.  

As an academician, she has conducted numerous research in the field of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Osteoporosis, largely in the area of epidemiology of non-communicable disease, prevalence and management of gestational diabetes, prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. She has also been involved in Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in diabetes and osteoporosis. She was the Chairperson of the 2020 Malaysian Clinical Practice guidelines for management of Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.  She has also been a member / chairperson of other taskforce groups for the development of Malaysian Clinical Practice Guidelines on cardiovascular disease, as well as osteoporosis. 

She continues to actively publish in International and Regional journals on diabetes, metabolic medicine, osteoporosis and has been invited to speak at National and International Diabetes, Endocrine and Osteoporosis Conferences.
