Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health & Consultant Paediatric Endocrinology
University of Glasgow
After receiving the bulk of his clinical and scientific training in Edinburgh, London and Cambridge, Professor Ahmed was appointed as a consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow in 2000 and was appointed as the Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health at the University of Glasgow in 2012. Professor Ahmed’s research has focussed on improving the health of people with a wide range of rare conditions, and especially those with conditions affecting sex development or growth and skeletal development. Over the last two decades he has attempted to achieve this through strong multi-centre interdisciplinary partnerships and infrastructures that facilitate research and care quality improvement. In 2021, Professor Ahmed was awarded the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology Research Award and in 2024 he was appointed as the Editor in Chief of Endocrine Connections.
