A/Prof Rashida Farhad Vasanwala is currently a Senior Consultant Paediatrician in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) in Singapore. Dr Rashida is a specialist doctor in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and Lead in bone health. She received her advanced specialist training in Bone health in Birmingham, UK. She holds an appointment of Adjunct Associate Professor in Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC Medicine) at Nanyang Technological university (NTU). She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke -NUS Medical School, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Yong Loo Lin School of medicine at NUS (YLL-NUS).
Dr Rashida strives to be a caring, compassionate and competent Paediatrician. She is deeply committed to providing the highest quality of clinical care for children and adolescents with wide range of endocrine conditions, diabetes, metabolic and rare bone disorders. She is the Lead in Paediatric Bone health Programme at KKH. As a paediatric metabolic bone disease specialist, she focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders that affect bone strength, growth, and mineralisation in infants, children, and adolescents. These conditions often arise from abnormalities in calcium, phosphate, vitamin D, or hormonal regulation, and can significantly impact a child’s growth and physical development. Common disorders managed include rickets, osteogenesis imperfecta, osteoporosis, hypophosphatemia, and bone complications related to chronic illnesses or long-term medication use. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams, including geneticists, dietitians, physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons and radiologist to provide comprehensive care.
In addition to providing clinical care Dr Rashida conducts audits and research and teaches Paediatric endocrine residents, medical students, nurses and allied health professionals. She has published widely in international journals and is committed to mentoring residents in clinical research. She has received many teaching and clinical service awards which includes the Outstanding Faculty Rise by Singhealth residency and Singapore Health Quality Service Award Silver, Gold and Star, Service from the Heart Award and Long Service award. She was awarded Special Recognition Award for being a Role Model to the Medicine Graduating Class of 2018 by National University of Singapore and NHG Outstanding Education Partners Award for contribution to teaching the endocrine senior residents in 2020.
