Dr Elena began her research career as a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, where she focused on primary aldosteronism, a treatable cause of secondary hypertension. Her PhD in genetics and adenoma histology has received international recognition, including the prestigious Austin Doyle (Servier) award from the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). Now a principal investigator at UKM she focuses on studying adrenal gland cell fate using single-cell technology. Her research at UKM has been recognized nationally and internationally with the award of the Malaysia Scopus Research Star Award (Ground Breaking Research Award) 2025, National Young Scientist Award (ASMN Medicine) Malaysia 2024, the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women In Science Award (FWIS) Malaysia 2023 and the European Network for the study of Adrenal Tumours (ENS@T) Award for Research on Aldosterone-Producing Adenoma 2021.The research has been published in top 1% journals such as Nature Genetics, NEJM, and Hypertension.
